this senseless post is about..
i guess there was no point in posting anything last week, since it was a very boring weekend. no point in boring people with the mundanities of my life, such as how i amazingly twisted my right shoulder while tightening a bolt, or how a unimog tie rod fell on my left leg, or how my malfunctioning pc mouse has been irritating the shit out of me, or that i'm trying to read 射鵰英雄傳 to prove to myself i'm not that ang-moh-pai (to tell the truth, it's not the first time i've been trying to read it).
..a strangely long bit about star wars..
okay, i watched star wars episode iii on saturday as part of a movie outing organised by the specialists' mess. i guess the lightsaber duels were much more satisfying than in the previous two parts. but somehow i realise i'm less impressed than i really should be. it's just that every other hollywood popcorn flick now boasts the same kind of over-the-top special effects; hardly anything really makes me sit up in awe nowadays. but then while i'm not big on star wars (heck i don't profess to knowing what's going on sometimes) i suppose i did enjoy it.
actually watching each episode has been somewhat of an experience. since there was a 3-year interval between each epsiode, the circumstances under which i watched each movie has been changing. i watched the first episode when i was 15 and on a students' exchange programme in sydney. i think there was a lot of hype about it being the first new episode in years and i recall kfc was having some kind of tie-up promotions there. i still remember this poster of darth maul in the boarding house there. and i remember not particularly enjoying it because i was nursing a fever. then i watched the second episode with my jc friends. who would have guessed i'd end up in hwa chong. and now here i am, in the army. just to quote that mr. brown, "and now, we have closure."
actually now i kind of feel like getting that episode iv/v/vi boxset.
..the rest of the long weekend..
even though i said i'd refrain blogging about ktv, i have to say that there was this particular song brought back memories of when i liked andy lau's songs when i was about 8 years old. that was when i proudly thought i knew all of his songs. even though i think i knew less than 5 songs then. i suspect that was before i knew cds existed.
sunday was the sentosa outing organised by er. but in the end there wasn't really that many people as i had expected. didn't really get to do much also since eugene and i reached late. had dinner at harbourfront food court.
and then there was wk's 21st birthday party yesterday. ended up playing a bit of his ps2 and watching his dong cheng xi jiu vcd, which was a plain stupid show that was quite funny. his birthday cake was quite cute also haha.
..the furious incident of the cat in the day time..
which brings to mind earlier yesterday, i saw a kitten sprawled on the ground while having lunch with my family at changi. it was trying to move.
only that it was crawling instead of walking. and it was easy to see why. both its hind legs were completely bent outwards and lifeless. the kitten could only be said to be dragging both of them with its front feet. initially i thought it had been bornt deformed but apparently the stall owner said it was a human act.
if only i had a photo. i hope the culprit fucking pays for his sin in hell.
and just to end off, a song.
a nice haunting little opera by the arcade fire that's been playing quite a bit on my itunes recently.
in the backseat
i like the peace
in the backseat,
i don't have to drive,
i don't have to speak,
i can watch the countryside,
and I can fall asleep.
my family tree's
losing all its leaves,
crashing towards the driver's seat,
the lightening bolt made enough heat
to melt the street beneath your feet.
alice died
in the night,
i've been learning to drive.
my whole life,
i've been learning.
i like the peace
in the backseat,
i don't have to drive,
i don't have to speak,
i can watch the countryside
alice died
in the night.
i've been learning to drive.
my whole life,
i've been learning.
